Dunedin Dancers

A typical Wednesday evening

Weekly Dancing

Dunedin Dancers meet every Wednesday evening (apart from holidays) in the Morningside Parish Church Hall, Cluny Gardens (click here for a map) for social Scottish Country dancing from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. [Dates are from September 14 to December 14 2011, January 11 to March 28 2012, and from April 18 to June 27 2012, all dates inclusive.] The dances are chosen and called by a different member of our group each week. Visitors are very welcome; each evening only costs £2.50 (or £2 if you are under 25), although it is cheaper if you pay for the term or year. Dress is informal.

We dance to live music from one of our regular musicians playing accordion every second week; on the other evenings we dance to recorded music. There is a short break half way through the evening for juice, biscuits and socialising, and after the dancing several of us usually go to a local pub for more socialising!

We do not run classes to teach dances or technique so our group is not ideal for absolute beginners.
The Edinburgh Branch of the RSCDS run beginners classes if you require them.

Dances

Dunedin Dancers currently organises three dances each year, in November, March and June. All Country Dancers are welcome. Information about the dances will be provided on this website, or if you would like to receive details of our dances and our festival by e-mail, please enter your e-mail address in the space in the left column, and click on “Add”.

Our next dances will be:

  • An Informal Dance on Saturday 9 June 2012 (Cluny Centre, 7:30pm) dancing to Iain Macphail
(download PDFs of programme and cribs)
  • RSCDS Edinburgh and Dunedin Dancers Joint Dance on Saturday 21 July 2012
(Inverleith Church Hall) dancing to Gary Donaldson - details to follow.
  • Dunedin Assembly on Saturday 10 November 2012 (South Hall, Pollock Halls) dancing to Jim Lindsay
    (details to follow)

If you need further dancing fixes in between, Trinity Scottish Country Dance Club run an informal dance every second Saturday.
