About Dunedin Dancers
Dunedin Dancers is an amateur Scottish Country Dance Group based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with more than 180 members. Most of its members live in Scotland, but there are also many members in England and Wales, and overseas, from as far afield as Germany, New Zealand and the United States.
The group was formed in 1970 by graduates of Edinburgh University who were members of the university's New Scotland Scottish Country Dance Society. They wanted to form a group which could run a folk dance festival in Edinburgh, to repay the hospitality they had received by attending festivals abroad. This was difficult to do with a transient student membership, most of whom left Edinburgh during the summer.
Dunedin Dancers held its first festival in 1971, and has held one every second year since.
